A Bloggy Birthday

Well, I have reached my one year mark! One year of my little blog. Yippee!!!!

I'm not sure if I'm more proud just having this blog, or that I've consistently stuck to something for one whole year!? I know that sounds terrible but for me, when it comes to hobbies they come and go like seasons. This was something different, though. I just love that this became a way of writing down weekly [or every-other-weekly] events and that I can easily look back on them when I want to go down memory lane. I have literally always scrapbooked memorabilia, so this seemed like an even better way to do it.

Of course it didn't actually start out that way. I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how this blog was going to go. I read all kinds, and everybody seemed to have "their thing". What was my thing? Just the header alone was tough to figure out. Not only do you want it to be interesting and catchy, but it needs to be original. After a handful of different names I just settled on one... A Little Bit of This and That ... which in fact, was not original. There was another blog out there that had the same title, but it dated back to many years ago so I took the risk [thanks for sharing, title twin]. Moving forward, I finally had my name - in case you're confused, my current blog name was obviously not the original one I began with; here is where I changed it. After you have the name, then it's go-time! But what to write about? Shockingly, I had a ton of stuff I wanted to blog about. My preference in fashion, beverages, you name it. I even began motivational posts once a week. Whether it be mentally, emotionally, or physically, I loved the idea of possibly providing any kind of motivation. I like helping people. Love it, actually.

From there, I just started throwing in random events that our family encountered, or work events I was privileged to attend with my husband. The funny part about it all was pulling out my phone to snap pictures of e-v-e-r-y detail. Literally, you begin getting looks from people like you're crazy. Can't really blame them when you're taking pictures of a food buffet as if you've never seen one before, or oil stains on the ground because it's shaped like a heart. Dedication, at its finest.

One year later, I'm still taking random photographs to document. Although, it's with less consciousness. I just do it. Even my dear husband will wait to take a bite of his food with the expectations of me snapping a photo. Of course it's not without one of his clever remarks, "...hashtag cold food." But he loves me.

Last but not least, I must give credit to one of my favorite gals, Katie, for inspiring me to do this bloggy thing. I remember the day I bugged her about the whole idea. At the time she was about 5 or 6 months into her own blog, so undoubtedly I had a lot of questions. In a way she sort of gave me that "just do it!" push. And so I did! If you get a chance, definitely hop on over to her page. Just be prepared for some serious adorableness of her latest creation - her son, Bennett!!

Well here's to you, blog! Hoping for many more years together!

Now that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

A New Beginning...

I am at a crossroad! I am almost at my ONE YEAR birthday of my beautiful little blog, and I've been wracking my brain on a few things.

Often times, this is me...
Married, with two kids, school, activities, events around every corner - you'd think this gal would have something to write about everyday! I suppose I do. It's more of "is this interesting enough to write about?"..."is anybody even reading this?". But I've had somewhat of an epiphany. I began this blog as a hobby. A hobby that kept me accountable to be productive about something other than my normal routines. At first, my posts came easy enough because I wasn't thinking too hard about it. [Isn't that the point?] It wasn't until I began blog hopping [a good thing] that I started finding myself a little insecure [not a good thing]. I started thinking "...oh she's clever, that girl has incredible taste in shoes, this chick should have her own cooking show...". I then started thinking, "what's so interesting about my blog?" .

The answer is, MUCH! Although it took me until now to realize that, though. Looking back to my first two months of blogging made me realize that I not only began a hobby, but I was documenting all my adventures. I have kept a journal [different stages of] my whole life. This was no different! I think the reason I struggled a time or two to write anything was solely because I was trying too hard. Instead of just putting it together, I would read it over and over again. We are our worst critics after all. But I may go easy on myself from this day forward. With our growing household, there will be plenty to write about.

That's really all I have for today. No funny jokes, no style info, or a recipe. Just my thoughts.

A little vulnerable, but it feels pretty good.

Until next time...

What's In A Name? ... THANKS, HELENE!!

This has been something I've been battling for a little while now, and as luck would have it - believing things happen for a reason -  I came across this post from Helene In Between. She could not have put my stress at ease any better, and give me that boost I needed to get it done! What is it you ask, that has had me so unraveled? The dreaded... SHOULD I CHANGE MY BLOG NAME OR NOT?!! Yes, it may seem miniscule to most, but at the time being it is something that I've been contemplating, and weighing heavily on my mind for some time now.

I agree with Helene that we begin our blogs with an initial purpose, and all seems to flow steadily for awhile. My recent blog name A Little Bit of This and That suited me just fine, because that is exactly what my blog is about - a little bit of everything; this and that. But I wanted something a little more clever, and more importantly, shorter. So I brainstormed here and there for things that fit into something short and sweet that described ME. And as clever as I like to think I am sometimes and what my initial blog name may have consisted of, I wanted to incorporate part of my own name into the title. Thus generating: Merrily Mee.

You know when things just fit? Well, that's how it felt when I put these two words together. As I mentioned before, "Mee" derives from my Korean name and the word "merrily" simply means happy. And that is my life. No it's not perfect, and that's certainly not what I'm trying to imply. But for the most part, I am content and happily enjoy life; with the good and bad that comes along with it! I would still describe my blog as an "assortment of my life's adventures", just sharing it with a new name! ;)

My sweet little blog has not yet ran a year's course, and while I'm just beginning to accumulate followers I thought it would be a good idea to make the change now - rather than later. I'm hoping to keep things flowing as such, and that the name change doesn't make much of a difference. Here's hoping!

A blogging fail...

You know that moment you over prepare and have something ready-to-go, then as soon as it's time, you submit 'said thing' and walk away with that feeling of accomplishment? I almost had that feeling yesterday morning. With my days, you don't really know what to expect, so to have a blog post prepped for the next day is a REAL accomplishment, let me tell you. I have gone a number of weeks days with the same ol post lingering there, because either 1) our internet was down, or 2) my morning started off crazy and by 9pm I was in bed; aka on my daughter's floor after scratching her back, with the hubs having to come in and get me. True story.

Enough rambling. My point is, yesterday I had a set post ready to go and published it long before I even had time for my morning bloggy updates. While catching up on one of my favorite peeps, Helene In Between, and after some serious blog hopping, I find myself scrolling through a new favorite, Glam Hungry Mom. THIS IS WHERE MY BLOGGING FAIL ALMOST BEGAN. In one of her posts, she shared some miraculous YouTube video of the new up and coming artist, Ariana Grande. Oh em geeeeeeeee. As a lover of music and talent, I was beside myself. This girl takes the cake. Along side the title of this post... I was indeed MIND BLOWN. I was so anxious to share, I debated whether or not to post a second time in the day, but wasn't sure if that was totally necessary. Although, it'd been worth it!!!! For reals. Her voice truly rocks my socks.

Have a listen, if you will.

1. I've been a Mariah Carey fan since I was 8 years old.
2. "Emotions" is possibly one of her most difficult tracks to mimic.
3. This girl is only 20 years young.
4. I don't have a 4....

So as an attempt to not pull a complete fail, by publishing two posts in one day, I decided to just postpone my #backthatazzup post with Whitney on Friday, and dedicate this one on Saturday!!!! Ha... oops.

With that said, my #backthatazzup jam would have most definitely been THIS in honor of this mind blown discovery. Listen to the original (below) then make your way back up to compare it to this girl's cover. It's seriously unbelievable. Brav-freakin-o!!

SPICE me up!!

There's no doubt Fall has made its mark as a favorite time of year for many of us. There's so much to enjoy this season!! To name a few, head on over to BlueDaisy in the Bluegrass, where my dear friend shares the joys of her own Fall Bucket List! I recently made a short list of my own expectations, as well, but had not yet touched on the one tiny, isty-bitsy, anticipatory item ...
"...don't mind if I do."
Oh yes. Starbucks is now serving their PSL. Holy Latte! I'm a happy woman.
Marking their 10th year of serving this delicious goodness, I have delightfully indulged into the celebration. Before any of mommy friends, or moms-to-be, get unraveled... I order decaf. You know, by definition meaning "coffee that doesn't work." Fortunately for me, I LOVE coffee no matter the effects. Ha! It's true.

My only other enjoyment, while waiting for my sweet nothing, is gazing at their always unique coffee mugs! I just love them. And for the record, I encountered that awkward moment of someone watching me take a picture of these ceramic objects. All for the love of blogging. *sigh*
Oh, Pumpkin Spice Latte... You are a true joy in my life. Thank you for always gracing your appearance at this exceptional time of year. Caffeinated or not, you serve purpose in my heart! Love always, your biggest fan!! ;)

Hello, this is Mee... and my skeletons.

I figured, for anyone interested, it was time to spill the beans a little about who I am, and all that fun stuff! I debated whether this should be a post, or an About Mee page of its own... post won. It's a bit of an overload, and when someone sees a section "About Mee" they don't necessarily want to know everyyyyyyything. Do they? It's like asking a stranger, "Hello, how are you?"...and then reciprocated by a drawn out "my day sucks, because... yata yata yata!". You then find yourself a little stunned, or speechless for that matter. Awkward.

But don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for stories in need of comfort, as my ever-so-patient husband likes to call me "Dear Abby". I'm just saying that excessive responses are not expected at that particular moment and you may be a little overwhelmed - as you may be now with this unnecessary overture. I'm already proving my point. I seem to ramble... but, lets do this.

Now, in case you are wondering, I did not spell the word wrong... Mee was intentional. And all for good reason. Without going into an abundance of detail, my middle name is hyphenated "Danielle-Mee", and as a convenience, (or to my grandmother) I'm Megan Mee. And yes, I like to feel clever by using it as a play-on-word any chance I get. Although, I did try to avoid using it excessively on my blog. Keepin' it simple people.

Ok, ok... moving forward.

This is Mee:
So, lets see if I can quickly bore you to tears break it all down:

I am Korean (if that wasn't difficult to notice), but what I couldn't tell you is if I'm 100% or maybe even 3/4 Korean and 1/4 something else. Why, you ask? I was adopted at 3 months old. With that said, my parents are my parents and I do not have any idea - nor desire - of who my birth-mother was/is... was.
As my faith being an important asset, I knew God placed me with a remarkably loving, selfless family and I could not have been more blessed and fortunate.

"Ladies and gentleman, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign.
Make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position."

Here we go...

In my early twenties, I enrolled in Cosmetology school with my long time bestie- because we make the best decisions together... hardly - and graduated as a licensed cosmetologist... only to immediately pack my bags and move to another state given the heart sometimes overrules the mind. Figure that one out.

Jumping WAY ahead - sorry it's just best - I found myself back in my hometown, and a new single mom to a beautiful daughter.
Where to go from here? You could say my life took a turn, enduring some hardships.
But seriously - after moving from state-to-state, divorced (oops, there I said it), and a mother at a young age - OH EM GEEEEEE - who's perfect??

I once heard it best stated:
"You know my name, but not who I am;
you know what I've done, but not what I've been through."

There's been many trials and complete fails errors in my life... none that I should regret - as we learn from our mistakes - but it wasn't an easy road. Although, we aren't dealt anything we can't handle, and have to grow from them, right? At least I did.

With Faith as my guide, I found my footing back on the right path. Which in turn led me to... what my heart would call "my angel"... my husband. A blessing, that no words could remotely describe and I'm not even going to attempt. He's simply amazing.
With this new love, and perspective that life was just beginning, I found myself focusing only on our blessings - our Faith growing stronger together - trying to always see the good; avoiding the negative. That's not easy to do when the world is what it is, but we can do what we can in our own lives!! I believe we encounter hardships as a way for us to grow - seeing another side to the world - making sure we learn and understand the difference in what's accepted and what's not. For these last years, I have lived a life along side my Faith, as guidance to what life should be about... being good to yourself. In turn, I hope to continue to be a good wife, a good mother, and a good friend.

FUN FACTS:
- I'm a stay at home mom.
- DVR is a lifesaver when raising a toddler.
- I don't believe in food deprivation and overindulge in carbs .
- Fitness is a necessity, to make up for the above.
My ability to recite just about every Disney movie is astonishing.
- I have a secret English accent that only my daughter is aware of.
- I'm obsessed with heels, but rarely wear them; I walk fast.
- I recently converted to country music; by miracle.
- I may or may not have a strange attraction to Jase Robertson.
- I'm obsessed with miniature items. It's true..
- I love anything to do with France.
- I need chocolate, like I need air.

There's not much more about me that's not nails to a chalkboard already been said... at least, thus far.

I started this blog as a way to write down - and share - thoughts, not so much opinions, and just everyday things that intrigue me. Although I don't credit myself as clever minded as some, or one who speaks with no filter, I'd like to think I could provide something entertaining in this bloggy world.

If you're still with me... God bless you!! ;)
